Construction of a new international airport has started in Jebel, Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan.
The facility is being built by the Individual Enterprise “Gündogdy” - a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
In Jebel, on a site of 275 hectares, a passenger and cargo terminal, a control tower, buildings for rescue and fire services, specialized vehicles and a 3200-meter runway, an apron, designed for 6 wide-body aircraft and 4 helicopters, will be built, and will also be completed beautification of the surrounding area.
Jebel International Airport will be equipped with ground support facilities to receive all types of aircraft. In June 2021, the Abu Dhabi Development Fund provided a 75 million USD foreign exchange loan for the purchase of this equipment. Radio and lighting equipment and meteorological equipment will be provided by foreign companies such as Thales Group, Indra Sistemas, Motorola, Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co KG.
The list of facilities, in addition to the main ones, includes an emergency station, an airfield fence with engineering and technical security equipment, a new checkpoint. Drainage and drainage systems, special structures (mooring and grounding devices, buried channels, wells that absorb forces from wind, wheel loads, air-gas jets of aircraft engines, etc.) will be equipped to ensure the safe operation of aircraft at various parts of the airfield.
The new airport in the Balkan velayat will be the fifth infrastructure facility to be built in the country within the framework of the “National Program for the Development of Civil Aviation of Turkmenistan for 2012-2030”.
The international airport is scheduled to be put into operation in December 2024.
